Which of these can I access?

It is the responsibility of the individual (or parent where appropriate) to seek rebates or funding to help cover the cost of psychology sessions. Please seek current information from the agencies directly. The following information may be helpful as a summary:

Better Access to Mental Health plan:

  • Rebates which are provided by Medicare

  • Previously known as a 'Mental health care plan'

  • Accessible by children and adults of all ages

  • The plan is provided by your GP, or a sometimes a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist

  • Allows up to 10 rebates per calendar year, for therapy sessions focused on mental health concerns

    • The current rebate per session when seeing a Clinical Psychologist is $124.50 (as at 16/06/2018)

    • Reception can submit each claim for you when you attend the session

  • Please click here for more information.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS):

  • For residents of Wyndham, NDIS will be available from October 1st 2018

  • A plan is developed with NDIA which can include psychology therapy sessions, in which case the entire session fee is covered (i.e. no gap fee) for the number of sessions agreed to in your plan

  • If you, or your child, is already receiving disability funding (including HCWA for early intervention through 'Amaze'), you will be contacted by NDIA and supported to transition to a NDIS plan

  • Alternatively, if you, or your child, do not currently have disability funding:

    • Check if you may be eligible: ndis access checklist

    • NDIS states that they can support individuals who:
      "Have a permanent disability that:

      • reduces your ability to participate effectively in activities, or perform tasks or actions, unless you have support, and

      • affects your capacity for social and economic participation, and

      • means you are likely to require support under the NDIS for a lifetime."

  • For current clients who are applying for NDIS, Grace can help by providing professional material which supports the level of clinical assistance needed

  • Follow these links for more information about NDIS. Or more specifically about Early Intervention support through NDIS (ages 0-6).

Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) Access to Diagnosis & Treatment rebates

  • Rebates for up to four sessions for assessment of a possible Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • The child's Paediatrician must provide the appropriate referral to activate access to these rebates

  • If a diagnosis of ASD is confirmed by the Paediatrician, rebates for 20 sessions of treatment are available:

    • The diagnosis must be confirmed prior to the child's 13th birthday, and rebates expire when they turn 15

    • 20 sessions total (i.e. they are not reinstated each year)

  • The current rebate per single session is $84.80 (as at 16/06/2018)

Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) funding for early intervention

  • This scheme is being overtaken by NDIS.
Individuals who currently access this funding, coordinated by 'Amaze', may still have access to it, however all newly-diagnosed children will instead be supported through NDIS.

Chronic Disease Management Plan

  • Rebates which are provided by Medicare

  • For individuals, of all ages, with a chronic condition (including Autism, Asthma, Diabetes, and other medical conditions as determined by your GP)

  • Up to five rebates are available per calendar year

  • The plan is provided and managed by your GP

  • The current rebate per session is $52.95 (as at 16/06/2018)

  • Reception can submit each claim for you when you attend the session
